BIFOCAL LENSES

WHAT IS A BIFOCAL LENS
A bifocal lens is a type of eyeglass lens that contains two distinct optical powers. This design is intended to correct vision at two different distances: typically near and far. Bifocal lenses are most commonly used by people who need both distance vision correction (like for driving or seeing far away) and near vision correction (like for reading).

 Key Features of Bifocal Lenses
Two Prescriptions in One Lens:
Upper Part - The top portion of the lens is usually prescribed for distance vision, helping the wearer see objects clearly that are far away.
Lower Part - The bottom portion of the lens is for near vision, making it easier to see things up close, like when reading or working on a computer.

Visible Line:
Bifocal lenses traditionally have a visible line separating the two sections, which clearly distinguishes the two different prescriptions.

Ease of Use
The wearer looks through the top part of the lens for distance activities and through the lower part for close-up tasks. This design eliminates the need to switch between different pairs of glasses.

Who Should Use Bifocal Lenses?
People with Presbyopia. As people age, the eye's lens loses flexibility, making it difficult to focus on close objects. This condition is called presbyopia, and bifocals are a common solution.
People with Multiple Vision Needs. If you need correction for both nearsightedness and farsightedness, bifocals can address both with a single pair of glasses.

Alternatives
Progressive Lenses. Unlike bifocals, progressive lenses offer a gradual transition between different focal points, covering distance, intermediate, and near vision without visible lines. They are often chosen by those who prefer a more seamless look and feel.

Bifocal lenses have been a popular choice for decades and remain an effective solution for those needing dual-vision correction.
